Paranormal State = Blair Witch House



The internet is abuzz about this hand-held documentary-style horror film from first time director Oren Peli. Peli, a video game designer by day recruited some friends and made the film for less than $15,000 back in 2006. After playing at several film festivals over the years, and being acquired by Dreamworks (now owned by Paramount), and scaring the bejeesus out of Steven Spielberg in the process the film is finally getting a limited theatrical release. A wider audience is planned for mid-October, but I'm sure it will all stem from how it does in limited release and if the movie lives up to it's buzz.

Being a ninny and having been terrified by the Blair Witch Project some years ago, I am excited for another go-round on the is-it-or-isn't-it-real train. I never had a chance to see Open Water, a similar style thriller a few years back, and I hope the hand-held camera work isn't anything like Paul Greengrass' Bourne films, but suffice to say I'll be there if it opens around here.
